Obideyi Olabanji is an experienced Pharmacist, and a founder of Newton Pharmacy Ltd. He has about 30 years experience in Pharmacy practice covering, administrative, hospital and community pharmacy practices.
Obideyi Olabanji started his career as intern Pharmacist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin in Kwara State. He immediately proceeded for one year mandatory national service in Abuja. He worked briefly at some community pharmacies before being employed by the United Bank for Africa (UBA) PLC as a Pharmacist & Manager, the position he held until he joined Marina Medical Services Ltd (subsidiary of UBA) as the pioneer Chief Pharmacist and worked for 7 years and one month. He resigned from this position to set up Newton Pharmacy Ltd where he currently works as the Chairman / CEO & the Superintendent Pharmacist.
Obideyi graduated from Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Ibadan in 1992 winning academic medals and prizes in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology & Therapeutics and Clinical Pharmacy. He equally won the price for the best graduating Pharmacy student in Pharmacy, as well as being a University Scholar. In pursuit of further academic excellence, he proceeded to the University of Lagos where he obtained Master of Science degree in Pharmacology in 2001 with a CGP of 4.37 out of 5 points). Obideyi had attended many courses and conferences locally and internationally especially the FIP world Congresses almost on annual basis. His major interest lies in use of information technology in Pharmacy, cardiovascular and diabetic pharmaceutical care and aeronautics (Piloting and accident investigation).
In his university days, Obideyi served as the Head of Education Committee of Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Student, University of Ibadan branch as well B.Pharm IV Class representative in 1991/92 session.
Obideyi served as the Zonal Coordinator of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Okoko zone of Lagos State branch from 2011 to 2012. He was elected as the Secretary of the Lagos State Branch of the ACPN in 2012, and served in that capacity till 2015 after which he was immediately elected as the Vice-Chairman. Obideyi was subsequently elected as the State Chairman of the Lagos State branch of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria in 2018. He worked assiduously with his team to repositioned the Association and introduced some far reaching policies that strengthened general management and operation of the Association.
Obideyi also served as a member of the committee that developed policy on PREP-Pre Registration Examination for Pharmacists for Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). He was subsequently appointed as an examiner by Pharmacists Council Nigeria for the conduct of abovementioned between 2017 and 2019.
Obideyi had serve on some standing and ad-hoc committees of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria both at the state and National level. In appreciation of his service to the profession, he was honoured with prestigious Merit Award Winner(MAW) of PSN Lagos State. Obideyi is married with children and currently, the immediate Past Chairman of ACPN Lagos State Branch.
